Typical college writing assignments right now are about literary movements and culture. Real life writing assignment are more like a friend asking, "Hey, do you want to write a review of my salsa?"
Yay salsa! So here are my thoughts on the soon to be famous Pirate Ringo's Salsa. (Kickstarter here.)
I first tried it on a chip, and my reaction was, "Hm. This is strong. She said it has to be an honest review. What if I don't like it?"
Five minutes later, after puttering around, adding it to leftover Mexican food...
Yes. Seriously. It's wonderful.
The Pirate theme goes perfectly with the dark, swarthy flavors. It is both hot and tangy, but for me the smoke is the defining flavor. I love smoke. If no one minds the comparison, it's like the Sriracha of Mexican food. I don't mean the taste, but if you are the type to throw a hot sauce on everything, you could grow dependent on this. It would make a great base, or finishing touch, or both. In other words, it could make you seem like an excellent cook just by adding it to basic foods like rice and beans. My latest creation - pirate mac and cheese. Oh my word.
If you have read this far, you may be asking yourself if this salsa is worth the price. I think so! I know for a fact I can't buy its equivalent in any restaurant or grocery store in my hometown. Yes, I have pretty much tried them all. This is a great flavor, both unique and versatile.

I had my coworkers (connoisseurs of Mexican food) try it, and the reaction was all positive, except for one poor soul who for some reason doesn't like smoky sauces. And even he had good things to say. It doesn't overpower. It enhances flavor without a weird aftertaste. It's seasoned well, and is not too salty. It's balanced. It would be good on SO MANY FOODS.
I'm already getting a little panicky about running out, and I'm pretty sure that's a symptom of addiction.
Well played, Pirates. Well played.
