Counting the qualities that really matter, here is the autobiography of two of the most successful people in the world. Now he's in Heaven, and I am wondering how exactly God works up the reward system for a life lived like this. This kind of story doesn't make the bestseller lists, but if you need solid inspiration in your life, here's something to smack you awake. And it's pure enjoyment to read.
It's been a while since I read it, but here's what stands out in my mind. The DeMerchants were all-or-nothing people since their youth. They simply followed a calling, set their course in life, and gave it their all. I remember airplane stories, and jungle adventures, and angel appearances. The miraculous happened alongside their simple acts of serving the needs of the people. They saw massive revival in their ministry in Brazil, and also paid massive sacrifices along the way. I can't begin to summarize or even understand what the impact of "52 years of service" means. "Hero" seems much too weak a word.
I have a special memory of listening to Brother DeMerchant tell some of these same hair-raising stories at my home church, years ago. We still talk about that night. It was one of those epic services you didn't want to end. We were so caught up in his stories, we were happy when he went overtime.
This books lives up to the title and shows what life looks like at full throttle. As a bonus, it will leave you questioning, "Are you living full throttle?" I think it's high time I give this one a re-read.
